In Sasolburg – Sasol and Natref Community Project. Sasol and Natref introduced two projects geared towards enhancing the air quality in Metsimaholo.
These initiatives involved the construction of a 1.6km road in Amelia and the improvement of the satellite fire station in Zamdela, Sasolburg, officially handed over to Metsimaholo.
Under the drizzling rain, the morning ceremony kicked off with the ribbon cutting for the road, overseen by various government and Sasolburg officials.
The entourage then proceeded to the Harry Gwala Multipurpose Centre, where the satellite fire station was inaugurated, opening its doors to the public. The ceremony concluded with a comprehensive tour of the fire station, attended by dignitaries, including Metsimaholo mayor Jack Malindi and Fezile Dabi mayor Dennis Khasudi, both expressing their heartfelt appreciation.
Rightwell Laxa, Senior Vice President at Sasol’s Sasolburg and Ekandustria Operations, emphasized Sasol’s dedication to driving sustainable improvement in their fenceline communities, guided by core values and a shared interest in the safety of their people.
Laxa underscored the importance of the road and fire station infrastructures in ensuring road safety, swift responses to fires, and overall community safety.

The 1.6km road in Amelia is aimed at minimizing dust and enhancing road safety during high traffic, featuring a pedestrian walkway, bus shelters, speed humps, road markings, and signage, linking multiple townships.
The upgraded satellite fire station at the Harry Gwala Multi-Purpose Sports Centre in Zamdela now accommodates a 6000-litre fire truck, ensuring faster response times.
Renovation efforts encompassed office space, ablution facilities, and reception area enhancements, along with an external structure for the fire truck.
Laxa concluded, “Safety remains a top priority for Sasol, and these infrastructures will strengthen the municipality’s safety measures, ensuring improved emergency responses for the fenceline communities.”
